Why are the ticket prices so exorbitant?

    • Chuck says:

Ticket prices are exorbitant, because they’re on Ticketmaster.

I’ll just wait till it’s one dollar–on RedBox–(I paid a buck to watch “Waiting for Superman,” which also was a somewhat one-sided documentary).

  4. Dorothy C. Lewis says:

When will the movie return to NYC? I was unable to attend the showing at the Apollo. Will it be distributed as a wide release soon? What about purchasing the movie on dvd? When will that be available? I’m so disappointed that I wasn’t able to see the movie.

  5. I would love to see this movie, but live on the west coast. Will it make it out here? Or will it be for sale? I’m willing to buy it if so, please keep me posted on it’s progress.

Sounds like a very intriguing documentary. I’ve always been passionate about black girls, black women (especially) of darker skin, appreciating and honouring our true beauty. I trust that this documentary will not victimize darker skin women but enlighten us and others to the unique and distinct beauty we possess. Please bring this to Toronto Canada; there is a great need here.

    Thank you

  26. Michael Williams says:

    Hey,

I have been following this film for some time now and think its most appropriate that this film and after conversation come to the City Of Boston. As a young black male, and Morehouse College Graduate the trend of placing light skin women over dark skin black women among my peers is very high.

A lot of Black Men think that there is a prestige associated with having a light skin women and only will talk to a dark skin women for sport or as a last resort. The irony behind “the dark girl experience” is that dark men are subject to the same emotional trauma and grow up with the same self esteem issues most black people that do not love themselves grow up with.

At the end of the day if you have no self love and your family does not tell you that your smart and beautiful and that you can conquer the world you will never believe in yourself or your people. From my experience light skin people are subject to all types of jokes and sometimes grow up wanting to be darker as if dark skin tone is an affirmation to being black race.

At the end of the day this is a psychological disorder that black people use to divide each other among themselves. To truly believe Black is Beautiful and be Black and Proud is to believe that Black is not limited to darkness yet darkness is black in at its best. No longer can we allow such a trivial issue effect the way we perceive each other on a grand scale. Its 2012 and Black it seems that Black People have become more overtly discriminatory towards each other than “the oppressor”. Moving forward we need to remember what Lawrence Fishburne eloquently said at the end of the classic 1980′s film School Daze and do better. WAKE UP!!!!!!

  31. Philly PA says:

Where is Philadelphia, PA? Please bring a screening to Philly. Besides, it is conveniently located between New York and Washington DC.

  32. ESTHER SMITH says:

For years this has been a pet peeve, as I too grew up in the 50′s-6o’s experiencing the same kind of negative sterotypes about skin color. Unfortunately, 30-40 years later, while working with elementary age girls, I was appalled to learn they still used the same criteria when selecting the opposite sex. “I don’t like him, he too dark.” I say all this to say, I’m hopeful this documentary will be scheduled for showing in New Jersey. Thank you.

  33. Tamara says:

Congrats on getting this film made. I’m from Oakland originally, currently livng in the Dallas area. When will this film be screened on this side of the country? It needs to be in every city, town, and villiage. I realize it’s expensive, but please try to make it available to as many people of color as possible. I’m anxious to see what you do next. Thanks.

    hello!
congratulations that it happened! i am so excited! the big question is how can we get Dark Girls on the westcoast?! i am in portland, or and work at a high school with students of every hue. i would so like to expose them to the film. i would also like to see it with my sister friends and have a discussion group after viewing. i am “light, bright, damned near white” and am excited about the stirrings i hear about a film about light skinned girls. we so need to talk about these issues that are indicative of our collective colonized mindsets.

anyway! thanks so much and i am anxious to see the film!

  35. Please come to Memphis,TN!! I believe that it is so important that the youth of my fair city to see this and to understand the issues that surrounds them. I , being an African American, have seen and heard all the prejudices inside the African American community especially prejudices that deal with complexion of ones skin. So please please please come to Memphis.

  36. Bonita Brown-Spencer says:

  40. SHERRI says:

I was called so many names I can’t even count them. By family, by friends, all through elementary and high school. I looked for college to be different…but then the skin color thing was applied to on campus sororities. A can’t wait to see your movie. Hope it hits distribution soon!

  41. Miss Hazel says:

We are so impressed that you have chosen to place a spot light on this subject matter that is crippling our young women. I’m over 70 and you can believe nothing has changed from the days when I was growing up. Darker skinned young women in many cases hate themselves because of their skin color and its heart breaking. We’d like this film to be shown in Seattle, WA. I’d like to know are we going to be able to see the documentary here?

When will Dark Girl be coming to Chicago.

  56. Dewayne Ford says:

I love all Women of Color, not matter what shade they are. i do believe that all women should be treated as indivuals and not as a whole. I have dated some very lovely women of color and I can only say if you limit yourself to a certain shade, well you are cheating yourself out some very lovely ladies.

This is a very gripping documentary… The reality of skin color discrimination within our own community is very real, but just not widely discussed.

This documentary is the much needed platform to bring this sad and embarrasing topic to the forefront. Thank you for doing the much needed work to shed light on this issue.

Please, please, please bring this film to RALEIGH NC!

  87. Capria says:

Birmingham or Tuscaloosa, Alabama would do well to see this.

    Lakshmi Gopal,
    Women’s Allied Forum in Academics

  89. Ingrid Gladden says:

Unfortunately, I missed the February 2012 Baltimore preview.. And much to my dissapointment I’ve learned today that I missed other opportunities for the East Coast shows. Please disclose if there are any near future plans to release the film nation wide… this is too important a topic to keep under wraps in limited release. Further to the point what is happening with the media coverage/promotion of the movie—I am just now hearing of it and desperately searching for ways to view this film. This sounds like a film that everyone woman & man of color should see— While the effect of color discrimination within the Afrincan American community have & continue to be devistating “Colorism” doesn’t just happen in the African American community it’s global–and it’s a serious problem.

  90. Kam says:

The trailer had me crying at my desk. It’s not my story but it took very culturally sensitive and proactive parents for me not to end up like these women.

I live in DC and a show here would my preference but I’d would commute to any major East Coast city namely Philly and New York. If DVD’s are available that would be great too. Please keep up the showings!

  95. J says:

Really hope this comes to Washington, DC soon!!! You’ll have to schedule at least two screenings b/c it WILL sell out.

  96. KissOfDanger says:

When are you guys coming to Florida? A showing in Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, and Miami wouldn’t hurt.

  97. KayeLoni says:

Please show this in Milwaukee, WI

  98. Sylvester says:

This movie is very timely. When we are going through a very racially charged era with attacks from the outside, we need to deal with our own internal issues that divide us. It is a tragedy that we let something as trivial, uncontrollable and totally without merit as skin tone have such a devastating affect on how we relate to each other. Skin tone predicts nothing of importance.

We would love to see this film in Baton Rouge Louisiana!

  99. Gabriela says:

Fort Worth to be specific. All the major events go to either Houston or Dallas. I am not in either of those cities. If it is available to but, please email me info on how I can get a copy. Thank you!

  104. KING says:

This is a movie that NEEDS to be released to the public. I know that you may be trying to make a profit or at least break even, but, this is a landmark in time for America. The internet is a tool that can be used properly instead of making us wait for the movie to come to a small area for a limited time. Either set it up for purchase/rental online or release it to the wild. Before someone else does.

  105. Carson says:

Just became aware of this film, would love to see it in its entirety. Will it be coming to the St. Louis area soon, if not how can I get a copy?

  106. Hello says:

You have to go way back to understand this problem. The problem started during the time of slavery and the evil slave owner willian lynch has a lot to do with it.
William Lynch, identifies himself as the master of a “modest plantation” in the British West Indies who has been summoned to the Virginia Colony by local slaveowners to advise them on problems they have been having in managing their slaves. He briefly notes that their current violent method of handling unruly slaves – lynching, though the term is not used – is inefficient and counterproductive. Instead, he suggests that they adopt his method, which consists of exploiting differences such as age and skin color in order to pit slaves against each other.

  107. Jenson Reiser says:

Where can I see/rent/buy this? There are a lot of comments on here requesting this info (from around the country) and unless you respond privately, none have been answered. Could you please give us some info? I’m dying to see this. Thank you!

  108. Rose says:

When will this film be available on DVD? I’ve been tracking its progress since I saw the preview a year ago and still nothing! It will never come to my country, so how about making it available to those outside the select viewing cities?

  114. Colleen says:

Will some copies be sold on DVD? I would love to purchase.

  115. Sophi Ray says:

These problems are not only characteristic of the children of America but a worldwide phenomenon. It would be fantastic to see this available to all of our black children. Please consider releasing a DVD of the movie. I would be glad to raise awareness in the UK via African lifestyle magaine, FabAfriq.

  116. Peace says:

    Stop by Chicago/Milwaukee Please

  117. Caroline says:

I am crying inside and out bc this hurts to see my ppl in pain and I am crying bc I am light skin and have always had an issue with being light. My life has been shaped by the pain of being light. I just don’t get us as a ppl — others may put us down but why do we do it to each other.

This is the time. The time is now. It is time to have this film show across the nation in many theaters. The awakened community will come out in numbers to support it. I am a Dark Skinned brother, and I have experienced some of the things that were said to these sisters. One that I heard a lot, even til this present time is….”You are so handsome, to be dark” Luckly I am a strong brother. We have to change our peoples mindsets. The time is NOW!!!!!!!

  121. Ciera says:

is there anyway that we can just purchase the movie instead of waiting for a tour date. I would actually buy the movie. Or if it was at the red box I would get it from there as well. Please keep your fans updated. Thanks

  122. lyz says:
